Hi Colin, thanks for making this video. At 5:00, you say you use the rudder to point the nose into the wind to establish a crab. However, I believe you should primarily use aileron to turn the airplane into the wind and hold a heading that results in the plane tracking the extended runway centerline. You would only use rudder to keep the plane coordinated. Safe travels!

Retired now, but I use to fly the MD-11 in the cargo configuration. This aircraft came with an Auto-land feature which was fantastic. In real bad weather after the autopilot landed the plane and the main tires were on the ground and the nose was still in the air...you couldn't see anything. After the autopilot landed the nose...then you could see the runway. The only way you could get the plane to turn off the centerline was to disengaging the autopilot. I flew learjets out of Aspen when I was younger...retired now in Florida. .

Nice video, Colin! I'm working on my MEL in the DA42 now. 95 degrees F, 4,800 feet, 3,700 pounds would give a 50 fpm single engine climb rate with the 135 HP engines. At least you were taking off towards lower terrain!

Three years ago, I could not find a CFI to make the trip in my 182. Waited for perfect weather and made the flight from Durango, straight in on 09 with about 25 gallons of gas. Easy. The departure on 09 was a little harder, due to the rising terrain to the east.

Thank you for great video. What is the departure airport ? Do you need to set Fuel Boost Pump on for engine starting ? As I noticed, fuel flow was set on at 19 percent N2, correct ?

Nice flight and video, great sound too - how did you record the ATC? It seems you leave the CAPS cover on and pin in place for takeoff? Wouldn't that be two tricky extra steps if you were in an involuntary spin, trying to deploy the chute?
